Apple Wasn't Interested in AI Partnership with Meta Due to Privacy Concerns

Apple declined an AI partnership with Meta, citing privacy concerns, as reported by Bloomberg. Talks between the two companies in March did not progress, leading Apple to reject integrating Meta's large language model into iOS. Apple opted for a deal with OpenAI instead, integrating ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Users can choose to use ChatGPT, allowing Siri to utilize the advanced AI model for certain requests. Apple is also in discussions with Google to incorporate Gemini into its operating systems and is exploring a partnership with AI company Anthropic. At WWDC, Apple emphasized offering users a selection of AI models from various providers. The decision not to partner with Meta aligns with Apple's commitment to stringent privacy practices, contrasting with Meta's data handling policies. Apple's move underscores its focus on privacy and user choice in AI integration.

It probably has more to do with reputation & appearances than with specific practices. Meta is well known for its bad practices regarding privacy, OpenAI is not (yet).
