Waymo dumps its waitlist. opens up San Francisco robotaxi service to everyone

Waymo has eliminated its waitlist for its San Francisco robotaxi service, allowing anyone to download the app and hail a self-driving taxi immediately. This move mirrors the company's strategy in Phoenix. Waymo has been operating in San Francisco since 2009 but only started charging customers last year. The company had a waitlist of nearly 300,000 people, which has now been cleared. Waymo also received approval to operate a commercial robotaxi service in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Peninsula. The service in San Francisco has been popular, with tens of thousands of trips taken each week. Over half of the customers used the robotaxis for medical appointments, while 36% used them to connect to other forms of transit. Waymo has more than 700 robotaxis in its fleet spread across various locations for commercial markets and testing.
