Google is killing infinite scroll on search results

Google is discontinuing the use of infinite scroll on search results, starting with desktop searches being affected immediately and mobile searches in the upcoming months. This change means that users will no longer have continuous scrolling through search results but will instead see a classic pagination bar on desktop and a "More results" button on mobile. The decision to remove infinite scroll is aimed at improving the speed of delivering search results by only loading results that users explicitly request. This move follows Google's pattern of discontinuing features, as seen with other products that have been shut down in the past.

Well, even though I called out Google is dying a while back, credit where it's due - infinite scroll is one of the worst ux for a list of things.

I wonder if this might be a preemptive move to stop Google from falling under addictive social media style legislation that would presumably ban infinite scroll.
