Geely releases new LFP battery with fast charging and energy density of 192Wh/kg

Geely Auto Group has introduced a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery called the Aegis Short Blade Battery, designed for electric vehicles (EVs). This next-generation battery boasts an energy density of 192 Wh/kg and a cycle life of up to 3,500, equivalent to driving 1 million kilometers with minimal impact on range. The battery addresses issues like high internal resistance and offers fast-charging capabilities, with an average charging time of 17 minutes and 4 seconds. Geely Auto emphasizes the battery's longevity, with a service life of up to 50 years based on average family driving. Additionally, the Aegis Short Blade Battery demonstrates strong discharge capacity in cold environments and enhanced safety features, including a high-strength diaphragm and self-fusing technology to prevent short circuits. Geely plans to debut this battery in its Galaxy series of E5 all-electric SUVs. The company's move towards developing its own batteries aligns with its strategy to enhance EV performance and reliability.

Those are impressive numbers. According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_commercial_batte...), NMC goes up to 205Wh/kg and NCA up to 220Wh/kg. It's the same ballpark as LCO, the original "Li-Ion" chemistry which seems to go up to 195Wh/kg.
