World first ultra-battery dump truck charges continuously on the move

Hitachi Construction Machinery has introduced the world's first ultra-large full battery dump truck at a copper/gold mine in Zambia. The prototype is undergoing validation testing to assess its performance and the support infrastructure. The project, initiated in 2021, aims to achieve net-zero emissions from mining machines. The battery electric dump truck is based on Hitachi's EH4000 AC-3 model and utilizes a battery bank developed by ABB Traction. The truck can continuously operate thanks to a trolley system that connects to overhead charging lines, eliminating the need for frequent recharging stops. This innovation is part of efforts to reduce emissions in mining operations, with the potential to cut diesel emissions significantly. The partnership between Hitachi, ABB, and First Quantum Minerals is exploring the feasibility of integrating this technology into mining operations, with the goal of achieving sustainable and efficient mining practices for the future.
