ChromeOS to Linux migration: requirements and setup

After nine years of using ChromeOS, Paolo Amoroso decided to migrate back to Linux due to the platform's advancements in features and usability. His motivation stemmed from ChromeOS potentially adopting a feature similar to Windows Recall, which he found concerning. Additionally, his increased use of Linux programs under Crostini on ChromeOS led to limitations that a full Linux system could address. Paolo outlined his hardware requirements for a mini PC setup, opting for a System76 Merkaat with specific specs to meet his needs. For software, he chose Linux Mint for its ease of use, low maintenance, and compatibility with System76 devices. Mint's community-driven approach and optional Snap support were also factors in his decision. Paolo is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his new setup and plans to share his experience once he has it up and running.

I just realised how good the laptop specs are for $1000 price point after seeing the System76’s catalog. Has the price of generic PCs without MS/Mac dropped or has Mac prices really warped the perception, I am not sure
