Figma defaults to train AI models on personal data

The Figma platform offers control over AI features and content training settings for admins and team owners. AI features are available across Figma's products, including Figma Design, FigJam, and Figma Slides. Admins can manage AI settings at a team level for Starter and Professional teams or at an organization level for Organization and Enterprise plans. They can control access to AI features and content training separately, allowing for customization based on preferences. Additionally, admins can adjust access to AI features within their teams or organizations, with immediate application of any changes. Content training, which uses data to enhance AI experiences, can be managed independently from AI feature access. Figma ensures privacy and confidentiality by training AI models on general design patterns and concepts, not specific user content. Users can adjust settings for content training based on their plan type, with different defaults for Starter, Professional, and Organization/Enterprise plans.

At this point, the microsoft CEO [1] is de facto right and even a bit minimalist in his stance: If it is on the internet or connected to the internet, it's up for grabs by any reasonably powerfull organization. They will use it to train AI or derive some kind of privacy violating model from it. They might even use your cpu power and electricity for it.

I'd love the governement to take a more powerfull stance against it, but they clearly aren't interested.

If small you and me want some privacy, you have to shield it from the internet, govs and bigcos: No more Microsoft, Google, Adobe, .... products.

For those who signed up for Figma's AI waitlist, you have to turn the toggle off before August 15th. From FAQ:

Figma won’t begin training on content for accounts with the Content training toggle on until August 15, 2024.

We will see many ToS changes in the near future. Better to read them this time.

Isn't consent by default illegal under the GDPR?
