Air Force fires head of Sentinel ICBM program

The Air Force has dismissed Col. Charles Clegg, the head of the Sentinel ICBM program, due to his failure to adhere to organizational procedures and a loss of confidence in his leadership abilities. The program's costs have surged to $131 billion, breaching Nunn-McCurdy limits and prompting a Pentagon review for potential cancellation. Despite the removal not being directly linked to the Nunn-McCurdy review, concerns have been raised by lawmakers about the fairness of the evaluation process. A group of Democratic lawmakers has urged Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to conduct a comprehensive review of alternatives before proceeding with the Sentinel program. The results of the Nunn-McCurdy process are expected to be presented to Congress on July 9. The Air Force's decision to remove Clegg underscores the challenges faced by the Sentinel ICBM program and the need for transparent and accountable leadership in defense projects.

It's not just one program but most. DoD let the industrial part of the MIC loose without meaningful fiscal controls. They don't even track every subcontractor properly.
