Read original articleMastodon has introduced built-in bylines for journalists in the fediverse, allowing users to directly access an author's profile on platforms like Mastodon, Threads, or Flipboard. This feature is currently available on mastodon.social and other instances using a recent Mastodon nightly release. By clicking on the byline, readers can navigate to the author's fediverse account to explore their work. The bylines can link to various platforms beyond Mastodon, such as Threads, Flipboard, WordPress with ActivityPub, and PeerTube. Publishers interested in adding their authors to this feature need to contact Mastodon. Initially implemented for select outlets like The Verge, MacRumors, and MacStories, Mastodon plans to expand this functionality with a self-serve system in the future. While still undergoing manual review to prevent misuse, this feature offers a convenient way to identify authors and explore their content across different platforms in the fediverse.
