French 'Excalibur' mysteriously disappears after 1,300 years stuck in a rock

French police are investigating the disappearance of the legendary sword Durandal from a rock in Rocamadour, France. The sword, associated with the paladin Roland in French literature, was believed to be indestructible and possessed magical properties. According to local folklore, the sword was embedded in a cliff wall and was a significant tourist attraction. The town is devastated by the theft as the sword held historical and cultural importance. The investigation is ongoing as authorities try to determine how the sword, located ten meters off the ground with no apparent access, was stolen. Rocamadour, known for its goat's cheese and voted France's favorite village in 2016, has lost a symbol deeply intertwined with its identity. The sword's significance is rooted in medieval history and the epic poem "The Song of Roland."
