Microsoft tells China employees to only use iPhones and ditch Android

Microsoft is mandating its employees in China to switch from Android to iPhones for work purposes starting in September as part of cybersecurity measures. This move aims to ensure staff use Microsoft's Authenticator password manager and Identity Pass app. The requirement is linked to the company's global Secure Future Initiative. Google Play services are unavailable in China, prompting Microsoft to block Android devices from accessing its corporate platform. Employees using Androids will be provided with iPhone 15 devices. Microsoft's executive vice president of security highlighted the company's vulnerability to state-sponsored hackers, leading to the launch of the Secure Future Initiative. This decision follows cybersecurity breaches, including attacks by government-backed hackers from China and Russia. Microsoft has acknowledged its cybersecurity failures and is taking steps to enhance its defenses.

Note this is less about Android being worse than iOS and more about the play store and Google services not being available in China, so people can't install the Microsoft Authenticator app from a trusted location.

We can expect Chinese versions of Microsoft apps on the Play store to go downhill at this point.
