Hackvists release two gigabytes of Heritage Foundation data

A politically-oriented cybercrime group known as SiegedSec has released approximately two gigabytes of data from the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in response to the organization's Project 2025. The data includes Heritage Foundation blogs and material related to The Daily Signal, covering the period from 2007 to November 2022. SiegedSec claims to have accessed full names, email addresses, passwords, and usernames of individuals associated with Heritage, including those with U.S. government email addresses. The group stated that this release aimed to provide transparency about Heritage's supporters. The attack is part of SiegedSec's "OpTransRights" campaign, which targets entities involved in anti-abortion or anti-trans legislation. This incident marks the second attack on Heritage this year. The Heritage Foundation did not respond to requests for comment. Democrats have linked Project 2025 proposals to former President Donald Trump, and SiegedSec has a history of targeting various entities, including NATO portals and government websites.

> The attack marks the second suffered by Heritage this year. In April, a Heritage official told Politico that the think tank had shut down its network in response to a breach by a nation-state hacking group.

I wonder if it really was a nation state earlier? Or if that was just the least embarrassing group to blame?
