My hotel room's thermostat didn't work last night

The author recounts a frustrating experience with a non-functional thermostat in a hotel room controlled by an iPad app. Despite various attempts to troubleshoot, including contacting a support agent named Cody who turned out to be automated, the issue persisted. Eventually, the author resorted to informing the hotel staff, who were unable to resolve the problem remotely. The narrative humorously contrasts the complex technological processes involved in modern HVAC systems with the simplicity of a basic copper wire at home that controls the author's AC. The story ends with the author reflecting on the contrast between the elaborate hotel setup and the straightforward mechanism at home.

The last two hotel rooms I've stayed in this summer both seemed to have placebo thermostats. Changes in their settings didn't change the temp a bit. Could be a coincidence or a new trend.
