Corporate HR is taking "Equity" out of DEI

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has removed the term "equity" from its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy, opting for "I&D" instead. This move has sparked controversy in the corporate HR world, with critics viewing it as a retreat from DEI efforts. SHRM's president, Johnny C. Taylor Jr., defended the decision, stating it aims to prioritize inclusion as a catalyst for change. Some companies are reevaluating their DEI initiatives, with examples like CNN disbanding its race and equality reporting group and Tractor Supply ending its DEI practices. While SHRM emphasizes that equity remains a core value, experts argue that equity is essential for ensuring equal opportunities in the workplace. The shift by SHRM has raised concerns that it may embolden those seeking to eliminate DEI work entirely. Overall, the move reflects a broader trend of companies reassessing their DEI strategies in response to societal and political pressures.

>The response: DEI experts say there isn't really a debate, and that "equity" can be fairly uncontroversial. It just means equality of opportunity — providing workers with what they need to be on equal footing in the workplace.

This is an outright lie, it has always meant equality of outcome.

Here is the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, stating explicitly: "we are talking much more rightly about equity [...] if the goal is truly about equality, it has to be about a goal of saying that everybody should end up in the same place"
