VirtualBox 7.1 Beta: Modernized GUI, Wayland Support for Clipboard Sharing

Oracle has released the first public beta of VirtualBox 7.1, introducing significant updates to its virtualization software. The new version features a modernized graphical user interface (GUI) and allows users to switch between "basic" and "experienced" user levels, which adjusts the UI functionality available. Key enhancements include improvements to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), a new NAT engine with IPv6 support, and ARM virtualization capabilities for macOS ARM hosts running Linux and BSD virtual machines. Additionally, VirtualBox 7.1 supports clipboard sharing via Wayland, enhances screen recording performance, and incorporates new Microsoft DB/KEX certificates for VMs created with EFI. The update also improves GUI accessibility and upgrades the Qt toolkit used for the interface. Users can find downloads and further details about this beta release through the vbox-announce mailing list.

Out of curiosity, for folks that use VirtualBox today, why do you choose to use it over native OS virtualization platforms? With QEMU-KVM + Virt-Manager or Boxes, Hyper-V, and UTM + Virtualization.framework, all of the major desktop OSes have a native, pretty well supported and performant VM offering out of the box. Ever since Oracle started getting all Oracle with Virtualbox, it's left a bad taste in my mouth personally, and have found all the other alternatives to be fairly palatable depending on use case.
