List of Companies Affected by the Global Microsoft-CrowdStrike Outage

On July 19, 2024, a significant global outage linked to Microsoft and CrowdStrike disrupted numerous businesses worldwide. The incident, which began around 3 PM, was attributed to a software defect in CrowdStrike's Falcon sensor software, not a cyberattack. This flaw caused approximately 8.5 million Windows PCs to crash, leading to widespread operational difficulties across various sectors, including healthcare, finance, and transportation. CrowdStrike's CEO, George Kurtz, confirmed that the issue was identified and a fix was deployed shortly after the incident. Affected companies included major organizations such as 3M, Amazon, American Airlines, and various banks and airports globally. Experts highlighted the severity of the outage, noting its impact on critical systems and the challenges in restoring services, as many devices required manual intervention to recover. The incident underscored the reliance on technology and the potential consequences of software updates that inadvertently introduce errors. Recovery efforts are ongoing, with many organizations implementing protocols to regain operational continuity. The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of robust cyber resilience plans to mitigate the effects of such outages in the future.

This can’t be an exhaustive list. A major company (80k+ employees) whom I was recently contracting for was affected and they are not on the list.
