setup with NixOS. My current environment is highly customized, focusing on efficiency and productivity. I utilize a tiling window manager, which allows for better screen real estate management and workflow optimization.

In terms of productivity applications, I primarily rely on Google Workspace for work-related tasks and use Firefox for personal browsing. My note-taking is managed through Obsidian, where I have streamlined my process to include daily notes and agendas generated from my Google Calendar. For task management, I switched to Todoist, which integrates well with my note-taking system.

My development environment includes Alacritty as a terminal emulator and Visual Studio Code for coding tasks, complemented by a Neovim setup for terminal-based editing. I also use Git primarily through the command line, with Sublime Merge for more complex operations.

For connectivity and security, I have adopted Tailscale for secure networking and Mullvad as my VPN provider. I utilize NextDNS for DNS management and have implemented Yubikeys for two-factor authentication across my devices.

Overall, my computing setup in 2024 reflects a balance of powerful hardware, efficient software tools, and a focus on security and productivity, tailored to my remote work role at Canonical.

> In my opinion, investing in a solid AV setup is a service to your colleagues, particularly where your role involves managing people. I’m currently running a Sony ILME-FX3 with the standard FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 lens, hooked up to an Elgato Cam Link 4K.

There's nothing worse than a remote coworker who spends less than £4,000 on a full frame webcam setup.

Funny, I've trodden this kind of path before and actually reverted to a more extreme view, because I felt I was getting distracted by the rig, not the job.

My opinion now is that less is more. The best software is no software. Deviations from the defaults might not actually be worth the long term cost.

The one thing I need to solve, though, is lighting for zoom calls. There's no getting around the fact that when you are a bald dude with a shiny head, in a room with one window, lighting can be...a challenge.

I love posts like this one. It's a great way to learn about gadgets and software that might benefit me.

You should consider adding a /uses page to your website (https://uses.tech/)

I was with you until I saw your downright brutish treatment of the Audioengine A2+ speakers.. Poor things, you even bought them stands! For what ? To aim that lovely HF at the back of your monitor ? You brute!

"how I computer"

You know it would be really convenient if there was a verb for this.

How do you do calls without earphones? Always on mute during and only unmute while talking?

needs to be doing this from within a physically secure facility, w/ machine gun nests and other defenses to ensure total data security
