Popular Shadow Library 'LibGen' Breaks Down Amidst Legal Troubles

Library Genesis (LibGen), a prominent shadow library providing free access to millions of books and academic papers, is currently facing significant technical difficulties. Users have reported that regular downloads ceased functioning last weekend, and the cause remains unclear. While some speculate that internal issues may be to blame, there is no official communication from the site's operators. LibGen, which has its roots in the Soviet underground publishing movement, has been a target of legal actions from rightsholders, including major textbook publishers seeking damages and injunctions. Despite these challenges, the site has remained operational, although it has been blocked in several countries. The current technical problems may stem from a lack of active management, as the site's coding administrator has reportedly been inactive for some time. This situation has frustrated many users, particularly students who rely on the site for textbooks as the school year begins. While it is uncertain whether these issues signal the end of LibGen or are merely temporary, the ongoing legal pressures and internal struggles raise concerns about its future viability.

I hope this gets resolved soon. Libgen has books you can't get anywhere else. I understand the desire to remove copyrighted works so people don't steal, but it also contains a lot of rare books, academic stuff, and so on.
