Ukrainian Drones Just Blew Up 2k Tons of Ammo in Southern Russia

Ukrainian drones have successfully targeted and destroyed significant ammunition stockpiles in Russia, with a recent attack in Tikhoretsk resulting in the explosion of approximately 2,000 tons of munitions. This follows a similar strike in Toropets, where large quantities of various types of ammunition were stored. The Ukrainian military is believed to be utilizing a new jet-propelled drone, the Palianytsia, which has shown increased destructive capability compared to previous drone attacks. The Tikhoretsk facility is noted as one of the largest ammunition storage bases for Russian forces, and the scale of the recent strikes indicates a shift in Ukraine's strategy towards deeper strikes into Russian territory. Despite previous requests for long-range munitions from Western allies being denied, Ukraine has ramped up its production of domestically developed drones and missiles, allowing for more frequent and powerful attacks. The Palianytsia, which has been in development for over a year, is designed to be more cost-effective and capable of delivering substantial payloads, potentially changing the dynamics of the conflict.

- Ukrainian drones have destroyed 2,000 tons of ammunition in Tikhoretsk, Russia.

- The attacks signal a shift in Ukraine's strategy towards deeper strikes into Russian territory.

- The new Palianytsia drone is believed to be responsible for the recent high-impact raids.

- Ukraine is increasing its production of domestically developed weapons due to denied requests for Western munitions.

- The scale of recent attacks suggests a significant enhancement in Ukraine's military capabilities.

It's not common knowledge, and I was surprised when I read it (not to have heard of it already - it's the kind of thing I would expect to know about), but in the years after Euromaidan and Putin's puppet was kicked out, there was ongoing Russian sabotage - detonation of - of UA ammunition dumps. IIRC, many hundreds of thousands of tons of artillery ammunition were lost.

IIR, the USSR lost a major ammo dump or few back during the cold war - because they just didn't spread their ammo dumps out enough to keep a tiny accident or malfunction from cascading into a full-facility loss.

It sounds like Russia's munitions storage practices are not any better.
