OpenBSD 7.6 Released

OpenBSD has announced the release of version 7.6, marking its 57th release. This update introduces several notable enhancements, including initial support for Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite laptops and Suspend-to-Idle functionality for amd64 and i386 architectures, allowing suspend on systems lacking S3 support. The release also enables UDP parallel input and integrates Libva's VA-API into xenocara. The default tar write format has shifted to "pax," and pfctl(8) along with systat(1) now provide fragment reassembly statistics. A new configurable passphrase timeout for disk decryption at boot has been added, which may help conserve battery life. Additionally, local-to-anchor tables are now available in pf(4) rules, and a new driver, rport(4), has been introduced for layer 3 connectivity between rdomain(4) instances. The DHCPv6 client daemon, dhcp6leased(8), has been added, while the older dhclient(8) has been removed. OpenSSH 9.9 is included, featuring a split of sshd(8) into multiple binaries, options to penalize undesirable behavior, and support for a new hybrid post-quantum key exchange. Users are encouraged to refer to the full changelog for detailed changes and to consult the Installation and Upgrade Guides for system setup and upgrades.

- OpenBSD 7.6 introduces support for new hardware and improved power management features.

- Significant changes include the addition of a new DHCPv6 client and the removal of the older dhclient.

- OpenSSH 9.9 brings enhanced security features and a modular architecture.

- Users are advised to check the changelog for comprehensive updates and installation instructions.

On my routers, this is the first release I have not needed to run 3rd party software for core functionality.

dhcp6leased is now included to handle IPv6-PD, and if your ISP supports SLAAC, slaacd is included as well for your WAN interface. I still have my fingers crossed for DHCPv6 normal address delegation, but it's a great step!

I'm looking forward to blatting my test laptop and installing this on it tonight. I ran OpenBSD as my daily driver for a couple of months a few years back and loved it, but development needs required docker and such so had ended up using it less. Maybe it's time to revisit vmm again.

EDIT: why the downvotes?

The official OpenBSD announcement is not the link from this thread.

It's from the original/dupe HN thread I linked too (2-days ago).
