Tesla's reputation in Australia is tanking, some buyers turned off by Elon Musk

Tesla's reputation in Australia is declining, with sales dropping significantly as potential buyers express discontent with CEO Elon Musk's controversial public statements and political affiliations. Data indicates that Tesla's "brand health" has worsened over the past 15 months, now reflecting negative public sentiment. This decline coincides with a broader shift in the electric vehicle (EV) market, where consumers have more options beyond Tesla, leading to a decrease in the company's market share. Many Australians, including environmentally conscious individuals, are reconsidering their interest in Tesla due to Musk's support for climate denial and right-wing politics. While some Tesla owners remain loyal, a notable portion of the EV-buying demographic is now less inclined to purchase Tesla vehicles, citing Musk's behavior as a significant factor. The overall EV market is thriving, with a 15% increase in sales, contrasting sharply with Tesla's 12.9% sales decline. Analysts suggest that Tesla's challenges stem not only from Musk's influence but also from increased competition and changing consumer preferences, as the early adopter market becomes saturated.

- Tesla's brand reputation in Australia has significantly declined due to CEO Elon Musk's controversial statements.

- Sales of Tesla vehicles have dropped 12.9% this year, while the overall EV market has grown by 15%.

- Many potential buyers are exploring non-Tesla options, influenced by Musk's political affiliations and public behavior.

- The EV market is becoming more competitive, with numerous brands offering alternatives to Tesla.

- Changing demographics in the EV market are leading to a shift in consumer loyalty away from Tesla.

Wonder how much it factors in that in Australia the main choice is between Chinese EVs and Teslas that are also made in China.

The AUS car market has been insane for the last few years.

People were literally scalping cars for above RRP, lots of fomo, people talking as if they could literally not afford to not buy a model 3/Y because they hold their value so well

Tesla was pretty much the only ev game in town so they jumped on wait lists, got their cars, which were supposed to not depreciate, then Tesla started discounting.

Then BYD and MG started delivering good quality and good value vehicles.

Even if Elmo wasn't acting the fool, Tesla was always going to lose its first mover advantage.

But if I'm being honest, price is probably more important to the average Aussie.

Star the model 3 at 30k and you'd have half the country lining up to suck Elmo's dick.

I live in the SF Bay Area and everyone I know who can afford a Tesla wanted one up until recently, now there are other options that don't involve supporting a lunatic w/ his ill-formed politics.
