Will Elon Musk fire a third of the US government?

Elon Musk and Donald Trump are proposing the establishment of a "Department of Government Efficiency" aimed at reducing federal bureaucracy by approximately $2 trillion, which is about a third of the U.S. government budget. Trump, who is president-elect, has suggested appointing Musk as the "secretary of cost-cutting" to oversee this initiative. The agency, which Musk has been advocating for, would conduct a comprehensive audit of government finances and performance, leading to significant reforms. Musk's experience in corporate cost-cutting, particularly at X (formerly Twitter) and SpaceX, is seen as a model for this approach, although he acknowledges that such cuts may lead to temporary hardships. The proposal raises questions about the implications for federal employees, as Musk's management style may clash with existing labor laws that protect government workers. Additionally, the cryptocurrency industry has made substantial political contributions, with candidates aligned with crypto interests winning key races, indicating a shift towards a more favorable regulatory environment. The article also touches on a viral feminist movement in South Korea, known as 4B, which advocates for women to abstain from traditional relationships in protest against misogyny.

I hope so.

No doubt would create a temporary recession. However, returning to a small federal government, no matter which side of the aisle you sit on, is a good thing. Power concentration is a bad thing. The USA was never set up to be ran as a supreme leadership, but every year we keep taking power from the states and give it to the federal government, and we have already increased taxes to beyond reasonable levels. The sheer amount of tax revenue wasted and channeled into the pockets of Sallie Mae executives, Boeing executives, etc is unbelievable.

Unfortunately, they've also codified nearly all of this into law. And the voter base has been scared shitless into thinking if the channels are removed, their very well being will be threatened, which is silly.

I would think this would create an instant recession. But might be great for the U.S. long term.

Please do it. It will not solve the problem (which is SS/Medicare spending), but will guarantee that they lose the midterms, which will grind the rest of the MAGA agenda to a halt.

We have a bit of a vague idea what might happen, from the recent election of Javier Milei in Argentina
