Amazon S3 now supports up to 1M buckets per AWS account

Amazon S3 has announced an increase in the default bucket quota from 100 to 10,000 buckets per AWS account. Customers can now request a quota increase up to 1 million buckets, allowing for better organization of datasets stored in S3. This change facilitates the use of features such as default encryption and S3 Replication, enhancing scalability and optimizing storage architecture. The new default limit applies across all AWS Regions and requires no action from customers. Users can create the first 2,000 buckets at no cost, with a small monthly fee applicable for any buckets beyond that. For those needing more than 10,000 buckets, a request for a quota increase can be made through Service Quotas.

- Customers can request an increase to a maximum of 1 million buckets.

- The first 2,000 buckets can be created at no cost.

Curious. Why would someone want 1M buckets? What would be the usecase.

And how would 1 manage that large amount of buckets. Create new dashboards?

Does anybody know what the analogous story is for Google Cloud Storage? It seems to me to be unlimited with no per bucket cost, but I never found a definitive statement about this. It’s important for SAAS products with one bucket per customer…
