Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency has been critical of USAID, the U.S. international aid agency, which was investigating Musk's Starlink over its contracts with the Ukrainian government. The USAID Office of Inspector General was examining how the Ukrainian government utilized Starlink terminals provided by USAID and how the agency monitored their use. Musk has publicly denounced USAID, labeling it as "evil" and a "criminal organization." Meanwhile, concerns have been raised by multiple federal agencies regarding Musk's activities with DOGE, which may involve legal violations. This scrutiny has led to lawsuits against DOGE, alleging breaches of federal privacy laws. The situation highlights a complex relationship between Musk's ventures and government oversight, with implications for both Starlink's operations in Ukraine and Musk's broader business practices. > Our objectives are to determine how (1) the Government of Ukraine used the USAID-provided Starlink terminals, and (2) USAID monitored the Government of Ukraine’s use of USAID-provided Starlink terminals.

That's not really an investigation of Starlink but of the use of Starlink terminals.

i have been surprised at the degree to which the government recently appears to use its discretion to punish political opponents. i am no Musk fan, but I do not think the prior govt was justified in putting their thumbs on the political scales in the way they did. perhaps this is nothing new, Trump does it all the time and Bush did as well (scooter libby case)... but still seems worth calling out.

similar to how california is proposing an ev credit that would explicitly exclude tesla, they have some parallel-invented justification for it but it is clear what the real reasons are
