My Memories Are Just Meta's Training Data Now

Meta's plans to utilize personal content from Facebook and Instagram users for training algorithms indicate a shift where our digital histories are repackaged to teach AI about humanity. This move by Meta involves transforming old public posts, holiday photos, and user names into training data for future AI generations. Despite Meta's assurance that only public content is used, concerns arise over the privacy implications of AI feasting on personal artifacts that were previously dormant on the internet. This trend extends beyond Meta, with other tech giants like Google and Microsoft also repurposing online histories for AI training. The European response to Meta's plans led to a temporary pause, highlighting the ongoing debate between tech companies and privacy advocates regarding the use of personal data for AI development. As the digital landscape evolves, individuals are urged to recognize that their digital footprints are already being consumed by entities shaping the future.

I don't see what's the big deal about this. You put out your words for the world to see. Somebody found something interesting to do with that.

For that matter, why do you think companies like Google and Meta give you stuff for free? Because they earn money from your content! Google inserted themselves absolutely everywhere to have the best possible idea of what you do, where you go, who you talk to, what you read, and from that figure out how to best advertise to you.

When you sign up for a free service whatever you upload to it is how you pay for that "free" account.
