The Hyundai Inster is a cool, small EV – so of course it's not coming to the US

The Hyundai Inster, a small and cute electric vehicle with over 200 miles of range and a retro-inspired interior, is not coming to the US. Priced below $26,000, it aims to offer an affordable option in the EV market. While Hyundai is venturing into affordable EVs, the Inster will debut in Korea first, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, excluding the US. This decision comes at a time when other automakers like Tesla, Ford, GM, and Volvo are working on introducing more affordable EV models. The Inster features a 42kWh or 49kWh battery, offering up to 220 miles of range, and is equipped with a single electric motor providing 95 to 113 horsepower. Despite its modern features like screens and physical controls, including a wireless charging pad and heated steering wheel, the Inster's absence in the US market leaves American consumers longing for more options in the affordable EV segment.

Cute.

Are there any MX-5-style EVs? I'm building up to my mid-life crisis, and need to know if it'll be an SL, A5, Z4, MX-5 or something new... The MX-5 itself will be electric in 2026, it seems, but are there options?

I just bought a used 2023 Nissan Leaf for $15K US.

US regulators are doing their best to keep affordable EVs out of the country, but the used car market is finally seeing enough EVs that it is making a difference.

It's small, but spacious. The Fully Charged reviewer is 6'6" but fits comfortably in the back seat behind a front seat set for him.
