Geely Unveils New LFP Battery Cells

Geely Auto Group has introduced a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery in blade format with a high energy density of 192 watt-hours per kilogram, compact design, and enhanced safety features. The battery is estimated to have a cycle life of 3,500 cycles, equivalent to over one million kilometers of charging and driving. Geely's new battery aims to reduce chemical reactions, extend battery life, and improve charging performance using carbon nanotubes and special additives. Charging time is reported to be around 17 minutes to reach 80% state of charge, faster than conventional blade batteries which require an average of 26 minutes. Geely emphasizes safety by employing a high-strength membrane and self-fusing technology to prevent short-circuiting and thermal runaway, passing rigorous testing without negative effects. The timeline for mass production of these new cells is currently undisclosed.
