The Þrídrangaviti Lighthouse, situated on a remote sea stack in Iceland, was hand-built in 1939. It emits a unique light pattern every 30 seconds and gained media attention, including a music video in 2020.
Read original articleThe Þrídrangaviti Lighthouse is an active lighthouse located 7.2 kilometers off the southwest coast of Iceland, known for being one of the most isolated lighthouses globally. It sits atop the tallest of three sea stacks, with the construction completed in 1939 by hand without machinery. The lighthouse stands on Stóridrangur, one of the three named sea stacks in the area. The building is a 4-meter square concrete hut with a distinctive roof resembling a medieval castle tower. The light is positioned 34 meters above the sea, emitting a long white flash followed by a short white flash every 30 seconds. The lighthouse was commissioned on July 5, 1942, during World War II, and a helipad for helicopter access was added in the 1950s. Over the years, the location has gained attention through various media, including a music video recorded on the helipad by the Icelandic band KALEO in 2020.
