How close is AI to replacing product managers?

AI is getting closer to potentially replacing product managers, as demonstrated by recent tests using AI models like ChatGPT. By applying prompt engineering principles, AI can excel at tasks traditionally performed by humans, such as developing product strategies and defining performance metrics. In a test scenario where AI was asked to develop a product strategy for YouTube Music, the AI-generated solution was preferred by 55% of voters, showcasing AI's potential in strategic decision-making. Similarly, when tasked with defining performance metrics for DoorDash, the AI solution received 68% of the votes. Despite some criticisms about AI responses lacking creativity or strategic depth compared to human counterparts, the results indicate AI's growing capability in handling complex tasks. While AI still has room for improvement, these tests suggest that AI models could eventually automate certain aspects of the product manager role, emphasizing the importance of prompt engineering and real-world examples in evaluating AI performance.

I would have liked to see them focus on less well-known companies. It seems quite possible that the reference human responses (from exponent) were already present in the training data.
