'Illegal' Cobra Mustang Paint Is Rare and Costs $26,000 per Gallon

The article discusses the rare and expensive Mystichrome paint used on the Terminator Cobra Mustang. Initially, only Ford could apply this paint, making it illegal for others to use. The paint, known for its color-shifting effect, was featured on around 1,000 Cobra Mustangs. While some body shops now have permission to use Mystichrome, many refuse due to its high cost. The paint is priced at over $26,000 per gallon, making it a luxury option for car enthusiasts. Recently, Ford painted a Ford GT with Mystichrome for a California entrepreneur, who paid $100,000 for the exclusive paint job. Despite its allure, the high price tag associated with Mystichrome continues to make it a rare and sought-after feature in the automotive world.

This article keeps saying it's illegal, but doesn't say why. Is it full of drugs? Does it have a chemical the EPA doesn't like? Requiring a Ford employee present is a matter of company policy and things like NDAs, not law.

It’s just “illegal” to spray without a ford rep present … or was

It’s nothing to do with the EPA
