FBI is working to break into the phone of the Trump rally shooter

The FBI is currently working to break into the phone of Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man who shot at former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. The shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt. The FBI has obtained Crooks' phone for examination after agents in Pennsylvania were unable to access it. The phone has been sent to the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia, in hopes of bypassing its password protection to gain insight into Crooks' motives. While some of Crooks' text messages have been accessed, they have not provided significant information about his beliefs. The FBI's efforts to unlock the phone come amid historical tensions between law enforcement and tech companies over requests to bypass device encryption. In the past, Apple refused to assist the FBI in unlocking an iPhone, citing concerns about compromising the security of all iPhones. The FBI eventually gained access with the help of an external security company.

Found this part interesting:

> [A]gents in Pennsylvania were unable to break into the phone. It’s been shipped to the FBI’s lab in Quantico, Virginia, where the FBI hopes to get past the phone’s password protection...

Thought standard Cellebrite hardware might've done the trick, but even their "Advanced Services" page[1] only mentions "iPhone 4S to iPhone XS/XR" and "iOS 5 to iOS 12" for "unlocking and extraction".

Does anyone know if that information is out of date?

Why did they shoot down the guy? Incapacitate him, instead of blowing his brains out. And you'll get answers, and not a puzzle that might fit together.
