iFixit takes shots at Anthropic for hitting servers a million times in 24 hours

iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens criticized AI company Anthropic for allegedly making a million requests to their servers in a single day, which he claims is straining their resources. Wiens highlighted that this behavior violates iFixit's terms of service, which prohibit the use of their content for training AI models without explicit permission. He humorously suggested that Anthropic's AI, Claude, should be aware of these restrictions. When asked about the situation, Claude confirmed that it should not use the content if it was aware of the terms of service. Wiens expressed frustration over the unauthorized scraping of their website, emphasizing that such actions not only take their content without compensation but also consume valuable server bandwidth. He pointed out that iFixit has disallowed Claude from crawling their site, indicating a proactive stance against unwanted data scraping. This incident raises broader concerns about the practices of AI companies in accessing and utilizing online content without proper authorization.

Unbearable website on mobile. Banner ads, footer ads, auto scrolls away from article, video popup ads. Just awful.

Isn't this an issue with the robots.txt? A clause in some ToS was never going to stop any web scraping.
