This collaboration aims to develop aviation-grade battery technology, with CATL investing hundreds of millions of dollars into AutoFlight. The partnership comes after AutoFlight achieved significant milestones, including the world's longest eVTOL flight of 155.7 miles in 2023 and a successful test flight of its Prosperity air taxi over the Yangtze River. The Prosperity eVTOL is designed to carry a pilot and four passengers, featuring a 160-kWh battery that allows for a top speed of 200 km/h and a range of 250 km. The recent flight demonstrated the potential of eVTOL technology to drastically reduce travel times, cutting a 25-minute drive to just five minutes. Moving forward, AutoFlight and CATL will focus on improving battery energy density and overall performance to support longer flights and higher payload capacities, while also expediting the certification process for the Prosperity air taxi.
