Apple Intelligence is coming. Here's what it means for your iPhone

Apple is set to introduce "Apple Intelligence," a suite of AI features for iPhones, including a revamped Siri powered by ChatGPT-4o, as part of the iOS 18.1 update expected in late October 2024. This integration aims to enhance user experience by providing personalized interactions and faster task completion. Features will include writing tools, suggested replies in Messages, email summarization, and phone call transcription. However, these AI capabilities will only be available on newer devices, specifically the iPhone 15 and later, or devices with M1 or M2 chips. Privacy concerns arise due to the extensive data required for AI functionality, but Apple emphasizes its commitment to user privacy, stating that most processing will occur on-device, with anonymized data sent to its servers. Users can opt out of these features if they have privacy concerns. The rollout will be gradual, with some features facing delays in the EU and China due to regulatory issues. While Apple aims for high-quality AI responses, there is acknowledgment of potential inaccuracies, and users are encouraged to verify critical information independently.

- Apple Intelligence will enhance Siri with ChatGPT integration in iOS 18.1.

- New features include personalized writing tools and phone call transcription.

- Privacy measures include on-device processing and anonymized data handling.

- Compatibility is limited to newer iPhone models and devices with M1 or M2 chips.

- Users can opt out of Apple Intelligence features if desired.

My son just reached the phone threshold age of 13 - he wanted a dumb flip phone and not a smart phone

The dumb phone was $70

It has a replaceable battery replaceable Sim card. It’s totally waterproof has a two day battery, Internet, Bluetooth, GPS, limited unlocked android applications web access through minified android with t9 and arrow keys.

Most likely I’m going to switch to that type of phone too when I need a new one

I think people are starting to understand what they gave up by adopting the smart phone as an accessory brain extension controlled by ad companies

I'll tell you what it means for my iPhone. It means it's going in the trash.

Times are changing fast. UX on Apple products is now heading in a direction that Steve Jobs totally had no ideas/opinions about.

More like NA Intelligence

Crazy that they're hinging the sales of their new iPhone on features that won't be available in their #2 and #3 markets (China and EU)

lol. Given the last few products I bought from Apple were trash, I expect the same for their AI.
