Elon Musk's Boring Company can't get Tesla FSD to work in tunnels

Elon Musk's Boring Company is facing challenges in implementing Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology in its tunnels, particularly in Las Vegas. Despite the high expectations surrounding Tesla's autonomous driving capabilities, the Boring Company's current operations still rely on human drivers. The existing 2.2-mile loop at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is part of a proposed 68-mile network, has not yet transitioned to autonomous driving, even in a controlled environment devoid of external traffic or weather conditions. Steve Hill, the president of the Las Vegas Convention Center and Visitors Authority, indicated that there is no set timeline for fully eliminating human drivers, although there are plans to introduce driver assistance tools by the end of the year. The Boring Company's ambitious plans for additional tunnels connecting major cities remain unfulfilled, with the current focus on expanding the Las Vegas system. The reliance on human drivers in a seemingly ideal setting raises questions about the readiness of Tesla's FSD technology for real-world applications.

- The Boring Company cannot currently implement Tesla's FSD in its tunnels.

- Human drivers are still required for operations in the Las Vegas loop.

- There is no timeline for transitioning to fully autonomous driving.

- Plans for a larger 68-mile network are ongoing but not yet realized.

- The controlled environment of the tunnels has not improved FSD performance.

It would be easier to put the entire car on a platform that's on rails

That's the easiest problem to solve because you control both sides of the interface. Just add whatever you need to both sides to make them co-operate. I suppose the goal isn't only to work in Boring Company's tunnels.

Ever tried to use your phone in a tunnel or underground, Elon?
