Tesla Full Self Driving requires human intervention every 13 miles

An independent evaluation of Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) system revealed significant safety concerns, with human intervention required every 13 miles during testing. The study, conducted by AMCI Testing, assessed FSD versions 12.5.1 and 12.5.3 over 1,000 miles in various driving environments. While the system demonstrated advanced capabilities, such as navigating around obstacles and yielding to pedestrians, it also exhibited dangerous behaviors, including running red lights and veering into oncoming traffic. The director of AMCI Testing, Guy Mangiamele, noted that the system's impressive performance could lead to dangerous complacency among drivers, who may become overly reliant on FSD and neglect their responsibility to monitor the vehicle's actions. The evaluation highlighted unpredictable behaviors and programming inadequacies, such as delayed lane changes, raising concerns about the overall reliability of the system. Mangiamele emphasized that even experienced drivers must remain vigilant, as critical miscalculations can occur in split seconds.

- Tesla's Full Self Driving requires human intervention approximately every 13 miles.

- The system demonstrated both advanced driving capabilities and dangerous behaviors during testing.

- Complacency among drivers using FSD poses significant safety risks.

- The evaluation identified programming inadequacies and unpredictable behaviors in the system.

- Continuous monitoring by drivers is essential, even with automated systems engaged.

So we went from “Autopilot” to “full” self driving requiring attention every 13 miles.

I will never trust or use any self driving feature of these cars unless every car on the highway is using the same software.

> "the most critical moments of FSD miscalculation are split-second events that even professional drivers, operating with a test mindset, must focus on catching"

Why is this even legally allowed on our roads? We've all been made unwitting subjects in this experiment.
