Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 costs as much as a whole gaming PC–but it sure is fast

Nvidia has launched its GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, priced at $1,999, making it one of the most expensive consumer graphics cards available. This price point is comparable to an entire gaming PC built with the RTX 5080, which is priced at $999. The RTX 5090 is designed for high-end users seeking top performance, particularly in gaming and AI applications. It features a significant increase in CUDA cores, memory size, and bandwidth compared to its predecessor, the RTX 4090, resulting in performance improvements of 17% to 40% in 4K gaming scenarios. However, this performance comes at the cost of increased power consumption, with the 5090 drawing up to 573 watts under load, a 35% increase over the 4090. The Founders Edition of the 5090 has a more compact design, occupying only two slots in a PC case, and includes design tweaks to improve cooling efficiency. Despite running hotter than the 4090, it maintains safe operating temperatures. The RTX 5090 also showcases Nvidia's new DLSS Multi-Frame Generation technology, enhancing its gaming capabilities. Overall, the RTX 5090 is positioned as a premium product for enthusiasts and professionals who prioritize performance over cost.

I love the NVIDIA design aesthetic compared to the other cards. TBH it isn’t even that NVIDIA’s design is that great. It’s more that everything else has become RBG vomit. I wish there were more options for non RGB versions from the resellers.

20% increase in performance for a 30% increase in power

sure looks like a dud
