Effectiveness of high-fat and high-carb diets on body composition and strength

A study compared HCLF and LCHF diets on body composition and strength after 15 weeks of training in 48 men. Both diets reduced body fat, with HCLF showing more muscle growth. Circumferences decreased, especially in the abdomen. HCLF increased strength, while LCHF decreased it. The research suggests both diets can benefit body composition.

Effectiveness of high-fat and high-carb diets on body composition and strength

The study compared the effects of High Carbohydrates Low Fat (HCLF) and Low Carbohydrate High Fat (LCHF) diets on body composition and maximal strength after 15 weeks of resistance training in 48 men. Both diets led to a reduction in body fat mass, with the HCLF group showing greater skeletal muscle hypertrophy. Significant decreases in body circumferences, especially in the abdominal area, were observed for both groups. Maximal strength increased in the HCLF group but decreased in the LCHF group. The results suggest that both dietary approaches can positively impact body composition, making them viable options for individuals with body composition goals. The study was conducted by a qualified team that oversaw the participants throughout the research. This research provides insights into the effectiveness of different dietary approaches in conjunction with resistance training for improving body composition and strength.

The interesting conclusion is not the weight loss but that the higher carb cohort had better results in both mass and strength. And it seems like the experiment was done on trained individuals, but don’t have access to full paper to verify the details.

Interesting indeed…

Things I’d wanna inspect: starting measurements to understand absolute gains, level of lifetime training, amount of control on diet, specifics of diet including the amount of deficit, ages, specifics of training during study.

Translation: if you go on a diet and train a lot and have the motivation to go through such a complicated medical study, you will look better
