Makes sense. My PC has turned into a machine that violates my privacy and serves me ads in odd places. I even remember seeing Microsoft AI agents running in the background recently that I cannot recall seeing in the past. I can’t trust that my data is safe on it going forward, and nor can the company I work for.

My Mac, although it is within Apple’s authoritarian walled garden, respects my privacy, has top notch build quality, really long battery life, and feels worth the premium by a long shot.

Still, I wish a consumer friendly long battery life Linux laptop were an option. Yes technologists can adapt. But it’s not yet there for everyone else. Debugging basic issues like sound or graphics or WiFi is tedious. And problems with standby or short battery are a nonstarter in 2024.

This does not surprise me. Over the past 2 years, I knew people who needed new PCs due to them being old and "slow". I told then do not get anything Windows, no matter what.

I would have preferred them install Linux or a BSD, but I do not want to hold their hands forever. So I said buy a MAC, windows 11 is very bad. And a few did. So new sales for Apple.

I do not know how Apple is with privacy, but they cannot be anywhere near as bad as Microsoft.
