Read original articleAmazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the discontinuation of several services, including Cloud9, CodeCommit, and CloudSearch. The company will no longer onboard new customers to these services but will continue to support existing users and assist with migration to alternative solutions. AWS Cloud9, a cloud-based integrated development environment, does not have a direct replacement, but users are encouraged to explore AWS IDE Toolkits and AWS CloudShell. AWS CodeCommit, a managed source control service, allows customers to migrate their Git repositories to other providers like GitHub and GitLab. Amazon CloudSearch, a managed search service, is being phased out in favor of the OpenSearch Service for enhanced search capabilities. Other services being retired include S3 Select, SimpleDB, Forecast, Data Pipeline, Amazon QLDB, and CodeStar. This move reflects AWS's ongoing strategy to streamline its offerings, although some analysts suggest that the company’s approach may be hampered by a focus on vendor lock-in rather than delivering superior products. AWS aims to maintain reliable service for current users while encouraging them to transition to other AWS or third-party solutions.

It should not be a total surprise to some, but given that Amazon doesn't seem to have a known foot in this AI game, it should really be a sensible option for Amazon to just use Perplexity and get an extra amount of money who will just know it by its new name "AWS Perplexity".
