M4 Mac Mini to Become Apple's Smallest Ever Computer with Complete Redesign

Apple is set to launch a completely redesigned Mac mini featuring the new M4 and M4 Pro chips later this year, marking the first significant design update since 2010. This new model will be the smallest desktop computer from Apple, comparable in size to an Apple TV but slightly taller than the current version, which stands at 1.4 inches. The design will maintain an aluminum shell and is described as "essentially an iPad Pro in a small box." The updated Mac mini will include at least three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and a power cable area. There will be two versions available: one with the standard M4 chip and another with the M4 Pro chip. The base model is expected to start shipping from suppliers this month, with a public release later in the year, while the high-end model will be available in October. This generation of Apple silicon will be notable as it will be the first time Apple uses the same chip generation across all Mac models, with updates planned for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro over the next year.

They could probably pump them out for 200-300 a piece. I’m just not sure there is that much unmet demand for a basic desktop. Everyone already has a good enough computer at home there really isn’t much need to replace it. What I’m still hoping for is just to be able to plug in my phone and use it as a desktop. Seems like it’s easily possible not.

I hope they have at least two variants of the same design. One being thin. Basically a MacBook Air without the screen, keyboard, trackpad and battery. And powered by USB-C.

Another one taller but with a large heatsink and fan that could use M4 Pro or Max inside.

I am just wondering if this new Mac Mini will make ways into enterprise if they had Windows booting on VM.

Not sure when it happened but there used to be a time when computer companies would continue to release new versions as faster products for the same price of the previous year (or cheaper!). Now it seems like they (Apple, Nvidia, etc) release new stuff at a slightly higher price and continue to sell the older stuff in tandem( and only sometimes at a lower price).

It is my hope that Apple doesn't continue selling the older (current) MacMini at a slight discount and then sell the new M4 at a slight increase.

Just. Sell. The. New. One. And. Don't. Increase. The. Price. You. Were. Already. Profiting. With. The. Previous. Iteration.
