Genuine question though, before this generative AI boom Photoshop had features that in retrospect makes me think it was generative AI. Like removing and automatically filling a space. Was there something fundamentally different between that and what we currently have or was the technology similar just with far more guard rails and not “smart” and generative.
The two paradigm shifts aren't perfectly equatable - there's arguably more creativity to framing and developing a shot than to writing a prompt.
But likely the role of art will shift once again, like it did when the camera was invented. Back then, it removed the need for absolute depictions of reality, so artists focused more on expressive or abstract paintings.
