Two Delta planes collide on an Atlanta taxiway, knocking the tail off one

Two Delta Air Lines planes collided on a taxiway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on September 10, 2024. The incident involved a larger Airbus A350, which was bound for Tokyo, and a smaller Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet preparing for takeoff to Lafayette, Louisiana. The wing of the Airbus struck the tail of the regional jet, resulting in damage to both aircraft but no reported injuries among the 221 passengers on the Airbus or the 56 passengers on the regional jet. Delta stated that passengers were rebooked on other flights, and the airline expressed apologies for the incident. Air traffic control audio captured the moment of impact, with a pilot confirming the need for a tow for the damaged regional jet. Meteorologist Jason Adams, who was on the regional jet, described the experience as terrifying but confirmed that there was no fire or smoke. Airport officials reported minimal disruptions to operations, and both planes were moved to maintenance hangars for further inspection. Delta is cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, which are both investigating the incident.

Why I always wear my seatbelt in an airplane when on the ground unless it's actually at the gate.

OT, (but in a thread where someone might know):

I was scheduled to fly tomorrow evening NY -> London on a Airbus A350-1000 (351).

The airline cancelled my flight last night because of "engine trouble".

Can someone with knowledge please explain how they can know 28 hours in advance that there will be engine trouble, and at the same time cannot use a different plane.
