Apple's new AI is magically mediocre

Apple's new AI technology, Apple Intelligence, is set to launch in October 2024 but is described as "charmingly unfinished." It will be available on the latest iPhone models, iPads, and MacBooks with M1 processors or better. The AI aims to enhance user experience with features focused on language, images, action, and personal context, but many of these features are still in beta and may not function optimally at launch. Key functionalities include improved email summaries, basic writing tools, and an image-editing feature called Clean Up, which allows users to remove objects from photos. However, these features are not groundbreaking and may not significantly alter user habits in the short term. The new Siri is expected to understand context better and perform more actions, but many advanced features are not yet available. Apple emphasizes privacy, with a commitment to processing data on-device whenever possible. While the initial version of Apple Intelligence is free, future advanced features may come with a subscription fee. Overall, while Apple Intelligence offers some useful tools, it is not expected to dramatically change the iPhone experience anytime soon.

The headline is rather click-baity. As noted in the article, most of the exciting and powerful AI features are not yet available in the beta. So I'm not sure you can review "Apple's new AI" without testing those features.
